At the beginning of the war, the 1st Dragoon Guards were in India as part of the Lucknow Cavalry Brigade, 1st Indian Cavalry Division, but by November, 1914, they were in Europe and on the Western Front. The unit diary covering this early period is very limited so, as yet, there is no information concerning the death of James Smith on 11th February. |
